Critical Mass is adhocracy in motion – on cycles.

Each month on the final Friday in cities and communities around the world, cyclists and friends (rollerbladers et al.), gather at a usual spot until a critical mass of wheels and owners of those wheels is achieved.

Having reached a critical mass the cyclists then head out for a fun filled evening with no set agendas or pre-determined route.

This video is of the start of the critical mass bike ride was captured as I stood atop the giant dominos art outstallation at the south-east corner of Spadina and Bloor, on Friday evening, September 29, 2006 – the usual CM gathering spot in Toronto which falls within Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina.

Along this CM ride were at least two candidates for City Council, myself, Candidate for Ward 19, and Desmond Cole, Candidate for Ward 20. Between us, if elected we both would respectively represent the west half and east half of the combined federal/provincial electoral riding of Trinity-Spadina.

In another video captured later in the ride, we hear from Candidate Desmond Cole and his thoughts on cycling.

Trinity-Spadina was cut in half to create two wards, 19 and 20, each of which is then represented by a single Toronto City Council member.

( I have the November 13, 2006 Election date on my mind, near the end of this video I gaff and say it’s November instead of September…and yours truly while pronouncing councillor, it winds up sounding like I said cancer whoops! …and I am promptly corrected by Karen Sun, cycling shotgun to me.)

. . . on with the big bike ride . . . .
